These courses are held at our training centre in Melksham, Wiltshire
, England. We offer a complimentary collection service if you'll be
arriving by air
from United States.
Private Courses can be arranged on site in that country.
The training centre is housed in a grand Edwardian House, dating from 1906. It's located in a quiet area of Melksham, with easy access just off the bypass. It has recently been totally refitted.
Our main training room is fitted with a screen projector, whiteboards, and plenty of desk space for each student. You have room for your books AND your
equipment!
There's tea, coffee and cold drinks always "on tap" in the customer lounge. You'll find an impressive collection of books in the library, shelved from floor to ceiling, including a strong technical section which includes the latest books on the subjects we teach.
Lunch may be taken in the dining room, or outside in the garden if the weather permits; occasionally, we visit a local eating establishment instead. The tutor joins you for lunch so that you can ask questions more informally and discuss your own specific use of the technology you're learning if you wish.
Telephone, public access internet terminal, scanner, printer and copier are available for your use at Well House Manor. If you need assistance, our staff are
on hand during the day and can be reached by phone during the evening and night.
If your delegates live more that 30 miles from Melksham, we recommend that they stay near our training centre; we can book you a room nerby with en-suite with large screen TVs, internet access, work desks, etc.
We limit our public class size to four trainees per course to ensure that each student has plenty of access to the tutor during practicals, and to
ensure there's plenty of scope for questions and answers from everyone during lecture sessions.
This course is taught in English.
Courses start 09:30 on the first day and 08:45 thereafter
and run formally until 17:15 each day (16:15 on the final day).
Access is available to trainees staying at Well House Manor around the clock, allowing you to check your email, work on practicals, etc. A staff member will be available for extended hours - usually from around 07:00 through to early evening.
Public (scheduled) courses run on the dates published on our
web site (http://www.wellho.net) and in our literature, and cover
the topics described in that information. Class sizes do not exceed
seven, so there is plenty of scope for questions. Typically, the tutor
will answer off-topic questions while other students
are doing practicals, during refreshment breaks, or over lunch.
All trainees are provided with a full set of course notes which cover the topics on their course. These notes are written with future use in mind. They include everything you'd expect in a book such as full explanations (not just tables of short bullet points), complete program examples (not just code snippets) and full lists of contents and indexes. Where relevant, we provide quick reference mouse mats as well.
Every trainee has exclusive use of one of our laptop computers for the duration of the course. The laptop is connected to our in-house network, upon which it has full access to large amounts of reference material, and (as appropriate) other facilities. You are welcome to use your own laptop
too (or instead) if you wish.
Most laptop computers can run (trainee's choice) either Linux or MicroSoft Windows as its operating system, and has a full set of tools installed under both. We also have Mac OS X machines available. For programming courses, a selection of editors is available. It's probable that there will be a familiar editor to hand, but if not we do have an easy "point and click" editor.
Apple Macintosh systems are also available on our network and will be used for demonstration and portability testing where appropriate.
We normally train using the latest stable version of the subject software. Where there are significant changes from a still-common previous version, we'll have that previous version available on our network, and we're likely to have upcoming alpha and beta releases to hand as well.
Each laptop has full high speed (300 Megabit) internet access, and we have wireless networking, and Category 5 ports available.
Messages for trainees can be left with our administrator (Lisa) on 01144 1225 708225, and will usually be passed to the trainee during the next break. Please ask Lisa to interrupt the class only if it's an emergency.
Please advise us at least three days before the course is due to start if you have any special dietary requirements.
If you can't manage stairs, or require wheelchair access, please speak with us before you book the course. We have installed an access ramp in our new training centre, and made the convenience as large and friendly as possible.
If you're planning to stay during your course, we can source rooms near our training centre.
We're situated about 10 miles off the M4 motorway, between Swindon and Bristol. There's plenty of free parking.
There's a good public train service from London to Melksham (change at Swindon). Travel down the evening before the course and (by prior arrangement) we will collect you from the station.
If you're flying in to Heathrow or Gatwick, you can take the train to Melksham (we'll send you details on request, and meet you off the train).
A regular bus service to Bath and Devizes stops right outside our training centre, and it's just a few minutes walk to other buses from Melksham.
