For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))
Well House Consultants has offered training courses in a variety of Open Source programming languages. Our main expertise is now in Python (version 3) but we can also offer 'heritage' training for system maintenance in languages such as Perl, Tcl and Lua. We are strong users of PHP (up to and including version 7).

With Coronavirus restictions - now in 2021 - we are training online from our Melksham UK headquarters (don't worry about timezones - we can be up in the middle of our night!). In the last year, we have learned how to present in this way to provide the most effective learning experience, and we have added elements to ensure that delegate stay with us through the experience and come out as well taught as they would be with a private course at your office.

Courses are all written by ourselves, and lead by our own tutor. We recommend that you limit courses to fourteen delegates so that the tutor has plenty of time to answer any questions that arise, and provide personal support during practical sessions.

Looking for Python version 3, for 2021 - see ((here))

Python 2.x courses offered:
The Python programming language (version 2.7 / 2.8)
Python's unique - a simple, object oriented scripting language that makes for clean, easily maintained and practical coding for computer professionals. It has many and varied uses - typically characterised by applications that require code that can easily be updated and amended as requirements change, and is to be looked after by a person or a team who has programming as one of their main tasks rather than occasional / casual coders.

At Well House Consultants, we run:

• A 5 day Learning to Program in Python course, which teaches you programming from the Python perspective - it comprises an introduction day which gets you going gently, and it's then a joint course with "Python Programming" ...

• A 4 day public course that covers Python programming. Some prior programming knowledge is assumed, although that doesn't need to be in an "OO" language. As well as the fundamentals, we cover object orientation and how it's implemented and Python's string and regular expression handling, collections, and much more. Delegates leave with a broad understanding of the language to get them well on the road to their traget application, and with the ability to make good sense of the manuals and other documentation which describes more advanced features.

• An Intermediate Python course which assumes some prior Python knowledge. You may be self-taught, or you may havce had some lessons, but you'll be wanting to study objects, regular expressions, lists and dicts in more detail for starters, and to learn more about Lambdas and generators. The course starts with a revison section to catch and answer any basic questions you have about the language, as everyone comes from a slightly different starting point on an intermediate course.

All three of our Python courses introduce you to Python's use with databases, graphic user interfaces, and web frameworks, usually taking SQLite, wxPython and Django as examples. We'll overview MySQL, Qt, Tkinter, Gtk, Zope, Plone, etc, if required by the delegates, and we can provide follow on information / training pointers on each as separate topics if that's where you're headed with Python.

If you've a group of three or more delegates who wish to learn about Python at the same time, a Specially Run Courses course can be arranged, and for larger groups we can also run a Private Courses course at your offices. Such courses are tailored to meet your requirements - please contact us to discuss the detail of what you need.

Python 3 ... As Python moves forward to the new release, and that new release becomes commonly adopted, our courses are being updated to cover both Python 2 and Python 3. This is a progressive process, and courses include examples in both Python 2 and Python 3, with instruction on how to move between them.

You'll not be surprised to learn that we use Python ourselves for some of our web site applications and behind - the - scene scripts. For example, our usage reporting system emails us a daily summary of visitors to this web site who are visiting from the UK or Ireland and who dally around the course description pages.

Python was written by Guido van Rossum, who is still very active in its future development. But these days he has a great deal of help from others too numerous to mention.
