As a schoolchild, I commuted to school by train, and I found the train in amongst the crowds an ideal place to do my homework. My teachers didn't share the view of how well this worked, as my writing was rather too poor for them to be able to read - I'm sure they knew what I was doing, but I got marks good enough to be middling in the class. Not bad for an hour or two of homework on a 30 minute journey.
This week, I've allowed myself a heavy commute schedule. Originally to be five days out from Melksham on the 06:38, two back at 19:11 and 3 back at 19:48, with 3 full days of training, it dropped a little as I stayed away one night. But I reckon by the end of tomorrow (with my return to be more like 22:45 on the bus!) I'll have been on twenty one train services. It's good experience for me and - lo and behold -
I've been able to get a great deal done too!. This is being typed on the 17:45 ex Paddington, gangways crowded with commuters, and we're approaching Reading. I'll be back in Melksham in time to vote, and also in time to walk the dogs. And my customer for tomorrow is happy with a start from the 07:20.
