For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))

3650Possessive Regular Expression Matching - Perl, Objective C and some other languages
"I'm looking to spend between £200,000 and £225,000 on a new home" you say to the salesman and - guess what - you're offered something much nearer £225,000 that £200,000. With Regular Expression matching, you can ask the question "do we have a match", and that returns a Yes / ...

3649A single action for multiple iPad / iPhone buttons, and animation
How do we add animation to an iPad / iPhone app? How do we share one action routine across a whole lot of similar buttons? These are amongst the questions that we looked at, and answered, in the little demonstration below during today's iOS / iPad / iPhone "Geekfest" ;-). Here is the header file ...

3648iPad and iPhone programming - our seminar weekend with Xcode
Seeing the wood for the trees ... that's one of the major issues when you come to writing apps for the iPad and iPhone for the first time. And yesterday, Kyle, Elliot and myself sat down at a couple of Macs and came up with a demonstration first app from first principles. There's lots of decisions ...

3599Seeing how Melksham has changed over the years, via an iPad
I spent some time over the weekend working my way into iPad and iPhone programming, using XCode, and already I've written a "toy" application which lets me drag a slider and move through overlaid maps of Melksham to see how the town has grown over the years. The original map is dated 1888, ...

3596Want to learn iPad and iPhone programming? Come along and learn with me for free.
I'm learning Objective C. The language itself doesn't look too difficult, nor do the elements of how it's used on the iPad and iPhone for App programming. But there's an awful lot of content to those elements - a lot of putting together to see the complete picture. My target is to end up knowing Objective ...

3594Back to Uni
We're trainers so we should be (and we are) advocates of training courses. And that means attending appropriate training, as well as giving it. Those readers who've been on our courses may well have heard me talk about how I have traveled far and wide to learn from the people at the heart of Perl, ...
