For 2023 (and 2024 ...) - we are now fully retired from IT training.
We have made many, many friends over 25 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are now very much out of date, but due to upward compatability most of our examples remain operational and even relevant ad you are welcome to make us if them "as seen" and at your own risk.

Lisa and I (Graham) now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We are far from inactive - rather, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to be active!

I am also active in many other area and still look after a lot of web sites - you can find an index ((here))

Perl module P221
Perl on the Web
Exercises, examples and other material relating to training module P221. This topic is presented on public courses Perl Extra, Perl bootcamp

One of the major uses of Perl is to provide a web interface to applications so that programs can be accessed via a browser. Such applications may be written in Perl, or Perl may simply be the glueware that's used.

3875Using CGI and Perl to put a simple application online. Sometimes still the best way.
These days, it's fashionable to embed Perl, PHP, Python or Rails within a web framework if you want to put your application code online - in other words, if you want to take logic that's tried and tested and make it web available. And there's much to be said for this fashion - it provides a whole series ...

2551Perl and the Common Gateway Interface - out of fashion but still very useful?
Is the Common Gateway Interface dead? No - it isn't; although my first choice for a new web application these days would be something else (PHP, Java with Servlets, JSPs or a derivative, Python with Django, Ruby with Rails ...), there are often times that I'll have a bit of code that I've run away ...

1198From Web to Web 2
"How do these technologies relate to Web 2?" asked one of my customers last week as we studied Apache httpd and Apache Tomcat. And of course that's followed up by the need to answer the question "What is Web 2". Initial web sites - "Web 1" if you like - were discreet information sources provided by ...

433FTP - how to make the right transfers
If you're transfeerring files from one computer to another, you'll probably use an FTP client program - either something with a GUI or the FTP command itself on your local machine, and that will talk to an FTP daemon on the server. It's important to note that you need to navigate to the right directory ...

975Answering ALL the delegate's Perl questions
During courses, questions arise. "I'll get back to that" could make people feel that I'm brushing something off ... except that I explain, early on, that some questions require a great deal of background knowledge to be answered sensibly. And I keep a list of topics that I'll be getting back to ...

493Running a Perl script within a PHP page
Our web site update has been progessing well over the last couple of weeks - you'll probably have notices that most of the pages changed a fortnight ago and the remaining pages are now switching over one or two at a time ... they're typically the more awkward ones! We've been providing on site training ...
