Using Object Oriented Tcl and the Tk toolkit together

Lisa and I (Graham) are now fully retired from IT training.We have made many friends over 30 years of teaching about Python, Tcl, Perl, PHP, Lua, Java, C and C++ - and MySQL, Apache, Linux and Solaris/SunOS too. Our training notes are out of date, but with upward compatability some examples remain operational and relevant. You are welcome to make use of them "as seen", at your own risk. We now live in what was our training centre in Melksham - happy to meet with former delegates here - but do check ahead before coming round. We remain active, enjoying the times that we are retired but still healthy enough in mind and body to do things!

Using Object Oriented Tcl and the Tk toolkit together - real life example (written 2015-03-12)

There are all sorts of ways to look at the survey data we gathered last October on the TransWilts trains, and one fact I'm particularly interested in is the journey lengths of passengers. I have all the information to hand that I need to work this out - but in different files:

As I'm teaching Tcl this week - and using the object oriented iTcl and the Tk toolkit, I've written my code (and a nice GUI) in Tcl - source code [here] ... not the simplest of examples for my Blog, but a program that shows
  * Multiple object types
  * Use of common (static) variables
  * Use of the $this variable for the current object
which you'll not find in many other of my examples.

It's been great fun writing this example, the results are very informative (I'll be making comment on the Coffee Shop forum, and it's a real reminder of the power of Tcl which remains an excellent language even if it's not the height of fashion these days. Please let me know if you would like a Tcl course - it can be arranged ;-)
